Frequently Asked Questions What makes Kealoha Kenpo different to American Kenpo Karate Kealoha Kenpo Karate In South Africa Cape Town

Q - What is Kealoha Kenpo?
A – It is a practical system of self defense based on the Parker system of Kenpo. It is a method of using the human body and natural actions / reactions for self defense and a means of expressing yourself within an art form.

Q – How does it differ from American Kenpo or Parker Kenpo?
A - It differs only in the way it is taught as it incorporates live drills as well as situational drills, making it more relevant and usable for current threats. It also adapts the art to fit the student as we all have different attributes. This difference makes all the difference.

Q – How does Kealoha Kenpo differ from other martial arts?
A – Kealoha Kenpo is a hard / soft system developing your body and spirit. It is a stand up art and consists of rapid fire strikes, low level kicks and locks to overwhelm your attacker. It is Hawaiian in heritage and has been influenced strongly by both Chinese and Japanese schools / systems

Q – What does Kealoha mean?
A – It means love or beloved. It is Mr. Parker’s middle name (he was born in Hawaii and it is where he first came in contact with Kenpo). It refers to a group of Kenpoists who love the art and who want to continue its evolution. Love is also the highest level of any Martial Art, where belt ranks and degrees become secondary to the martial artist who simply “is” his art. (The symbol of the Dragon in Kenpo)

Q – Is Kealoha Kenpo suited for everyone.
A – Yes. Whatever your ability or disability, (depending on how you look at it) we at Kealoha Kenpo will tailor a class to suit your requirements. Having said that not everyone is suited for Kealoha Kenpo as it consists of hard work, dedication and perseverance.

Q - What would I benefit from Kealoha Kenpo?
A –Self defense, fitness, self discipline, confidence, awareness and hopefully ultimately a paradigm shift in how you see the world

Q – Are there belt ranks in Kealoha Kenpo?
A – Yes, the usual American Kenpo belt ranks apply however once reaching black belt no degrees are given. The greatest martial artists are eternal students. Emphasis is placed on the practitioner to continue his or her own evolution both within the art and as a human. True mastery is never reached it can only be strived for daily.

Q – Who is the creator of the system?
A – Andre’ Solomon is the founder of the system but since each of his students have their own unique attributes eventually when viewed Kealoha Kenpo will differ visually and in terms of energy from artist to artist. As an example: Just as two musicians may play the same instrument and song what we hear is often very different.

Q - Is it suitable for children?
A – Yes, however classes are structured differently and belts received are all junior.
